Herstory’s invaluable partnerships with local and national organizations help us to bring our writing workshops and facilitator training to people committed to combating injustice and using memoir writing as a tool for doing so. They allow people to produce stories as well as establish workshops for the community members they serve to create stories that can be used to advocate for social change, whether locally, statewide, or nationally as part of broader social justice movements. Partnerships involve either working with institutions and organizations such as schools and advocacy organizations or becoming involved in policy campaigns dedicated to changing hearts, minds, and legislation.

Working closely with other small nonprofits, national carceral justice organizations, or universities and law schools allows our work to have deeper impact as it contributes to social change. This impact is felt not only by workshop participants and facilitators but also in the public sphere, where Herstory’s empathy-based approach transforms how people look at the world and engage with each other, inspiring them to take action.
